Planning International Activity

When planning an activity outside the United States, you should be aware of the various policies of the George Washington University (GW), and the U.S. and foreign laws that may apply. Requirements to keep in mind include:

  • There are university policies that are relevant to members of the GW community engaged in international operations.
  • Your international activities may be subject to the U.S.  and foreign laws that apply to foreign activities.
  • Export controls address federal regulations that govern activities related to conducting education or research abroad and with foreign partners and individuals.
  • You should understand foreign gifts to know the issues with gift giving and receiving internationally.
  • GW provides travel and medical insurance benefits.
  • It is important to switch to an international cell phone plan before you leave the U.S.
